THE OBITUARY
Dianne Schrader Picton was born August 8, 1940 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Lyle and Marjorie Cook Schrader. She was baptized October 27, 1940 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Bloomfield and affirmed her faith in the triune God there on June 6, 1954.
Dianne graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1958 and attended Midland Lutheran College. She graduated from Immanuel School of Nursing in 1963 and received the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from UNO in 1964. She married Owen Picton on May 26, 1963, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. She and Owen had two sons, Steven and David. They lived for a long time in Blair, Nebraska, where they were active at First Lutheran Church. In her spare time, Dianne loved to quilt and the Picton home was full of beautiful quilted items.
In her professional life Dianne served as a nurse and also taught nursing. The call to the ministry began to assert itself in her life and she obtained an associate degree in religion from Midland Lutheran College in 1983. Several years later she began attending Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, where she received the Mastor of Divinity degree in 1994. She was ordained at First Lutheran Church in Blair on November 13, 1994. She was active among the Nebraska Synod Women in Ministry, serving as co-treasurer for a time.
Pastor Dianne was called to St. John's (Cuming County Line) Lutheran Church, rural Scribner and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Uehling in 1994. She served the two congregations until she went on medical disability in June 2002, after St. John's centennial celebration. She resigned her call in August of this year.
Dianne had struggled with cancer before she went to seminary. She had been in remission for about five years when the cancer returned. She took weekly treatments for several years, but they stopped being effective. In October of this year she was hospitalized at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Dianne came home to their Fremont apartment in November and died there on Saturday, November 30, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents. Dianne is survived by her husband, Owen, of Fremont, sons Steven and wife Kelly of Brookfield, Illinois and David and Cindy of Blair, brother Dennis and wife Peggy Schrader of Bloomfield, and grandson Zachary. She is also survived by her parishioners of St. John's and St. Paul's.
The family has suggested four designations for memorials: St. John's Lutheran Church, Scribner, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Uehling, the Nebraska Synod Seminarian Loan and Grant Fund and Habitat for Humanity.
Pallbearers are the Rev. Susan Butler, Trudy Hutton, LaRae Plessing, Jannet Silhacek, Jodi Timmerman and Lisa Tubach. Honorary pallbearers are Barbara Gillilan, Joan Hohensee, Judy Thompson and Mildred Von Seggern.
The burial will take place at the cemetery at St. John's Lutheran Church (County Line). Following the burial, there will be a lunch at the church.
