Harold L. Roesch
Harold L. Roesch, 85, of Hiawatha, KS (formerly of Reserve, KS), passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 16, 2019 at the Apostolic Christian Home, Sabetha, KS. He was born October 23, 1933 at Falls City, NE to Henry and Mary (Idol) Roesch.
He married Mary Ellen Gerdes on September 6, 1959 at Falls City.
Harold spent his childhood on a farm in the Reserve area farming with his dad, Henry and his mother Mary. During his high school years he was very active in sports and music, graduation from Reserve High School in 1951. He graduated from Highland Junior College in 1953. While at Highland he sang in the college chorus and music quartet.
Harold continued to farm with his dad. Through the years they had a cattle and sheep operation. He belonged to the Brown County Farm Bureau and served as a board member. He also served on the Reserve High School Board. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (20th & Towle St.) at Falls City where he taught Sunday School for 25 years.
He was a recipient of the Bankers Soil Conservation Award twice through the years. He was a member of the Hiawatha National Guard for 10 years.
Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Hiawatha, sons, David and his wife Tracy of Topeka, KS, Robbie and his wife Heather of Atchison, KS, grandchildren, Ethan Roesch and wife Shannon of Topeka, Kaitlin Latimer and her husband John of Manhattan, KS, Reagan and Laura Roesch and Sierra Charlson of Atchison, KS, great-grandchildren, Aydin McDonald and Brylie Roesch both of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Wallace L. Gerdes, Jr. and his wife Elaine.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle St.) with Reverend Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
