Note: Aunt Lena told me that when her father was born, that Germany was a number of independent states. At that time, one needed permission and documentation to travel to another (state)nation. Our grandfathers mother went home to her parents to have our baby grandfather. Our Great Grandfather could not go along because he lived in Graben and it was in a different nation.
